Any system that is of interest to plantary science can have its own page. When creating a new system, please copy the the page Stellar System Boilerplate and fill in the details. Individual objects, such as stars, planets, brown dwarves, and dust disks, should not have their own individual page. Instead, all information on these objects should be in their respective system page.

EP_Header TemplateEdit

The EP_Header template should appear as the first line in every page in this mini wiki. It includes a simple standardized box that takes the navigator to the main page for this wiki. It also adds the category Category:Exoplanetary Wiki to the calling page so that this category does not also need to be added to the page itself. Every page, including other templates and images, should use this template.

System Boiler PlatesEdit

Every star system should have two pages created for it. A system page and a system summary template. The system page should be created by copying the contents of the Stellar System Boilerplate into the page and then replacing the text "<Star>" with the name of the primary star that gives the system its name. Once this page has been created, the sections can be modified as desired. If one of the sections that comes from the boiler plate is empty, DO NOT remove the section or its "boiler plate" dummy text. This "garbage" text is there to make it easy for someone to add to it even if there's no data in that section yet.

The top of any star system is the system summary template. This template should be created by copying the contents of the Star_System_Template_Boiler_Plate page and then replacing the SampleText with a brief paragraph summarizing the significance of this star system. In addition to being used at the top of the system page, this template will be used by many of the star system lists that appear in this mini-wiki. Exoplanets and their star systems usually have unmemorable names. These templates are used in lists to help identify a system by its characteristics rather than by its name.

Every star system should have an artwork section with a link to a gallery template. These galleries should be created using the Star_System_Gallery_Boiler_Plate page. Once a gallery template has been created, they should be added to the page System Galleries.

Images of a planet in a system should list the credit to whoever created the image and provide a link back to the place where it was originally found. Only include the full-sized version of an image if you are certain that the image is free to use by anyone. Images for which usage is unknown or prohibited are also encouraged to be posted here, but ONLY post THUMBNAIL sized images for these. A link to the original web source should then be provided so that the navigator can see view the image at its original resolution. New images can be uploaded at the special Upload page. Be sure to include the EP_Header template. If permission for the image was not granted, use the img_src template and specify the location where the original sized photo can be found. This template will indicate that permission was NOT granted for usage of the image but that it is believed that thumbnail sized resolution images are permissable.

All of the images for a given system should be collected and displayed in the Artwork gallery section of a given system's page. The naming convention for an image that is part of a system collection should be an abbreviated form of the system name followed by an underscore followed by a two digit image number.

Referencing System ComponentsEdit

If you wish to display the name of a particular component of a system and also provide a link to the system page that component is a part of, use the "letter" template. The first argument should be the name of the system (without the word "System"). The second argument should be the identifier for that component, such as "b" or "B".
